We are NSW’s bulk water supplier, river operator and your one-stop shop for licensing, water trades and water information. We supply two thirds of water used in NSW from our 42 dams, rivers and pipelines to regional towns, irrigators, Sydney Water and local water utilities.
WaterNSW is seeking a talented Hydraulic Modeller to join our Strategy and Performance team. The successful candidate will undertake hydraulic/flood modelling projects and provide specialist technical advice on flood works approvals to support Dam Safety, Water Operations, Assets Delivery, Water Regulation and external projects for the Regional Supply and Flood Modelling (RFSM) team.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Undertake hydraulic modelling projects using suite of hydraulic models, Mike Flood (Mike 11, Mike 21), HEC-Ras and TUFLOW as per requirement of the projects.
- Use best modelling practice in RFSM and show willingness to undertake projects/tasks as required
- Support effective technical solutions to difficulties while corresponding with multiple stakeholders at a time
- Understand flood policy, state legislation and approval pathways
- Support implementation of the modelling standards and provide technical leadership to junior staff if or when required
- Develop hydrologic/hydraulic modelling tools, database, and GIS products for hydraulic/hydrologic modelling projects in accordance with project requirements.
- Update and maintain the new and existing hydraulic models, modelling tools and products used for wide ranging applications in NSW.
Skills and Qualifications required:
- Demonstrated understanding of hydraulic models, as applied to the preparation of flood management plans, floodplain modelling and river environments.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, and a strong focus on project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Demonstrated proficiency using DHI MIKE Suite (MIKE11, MIKE21 and MIKE FLOOD), HEC-Ras and TUFLOW. Proficiency in hydrologic modelling and linkages with hydraulic modelling outcomes will be highly regarded.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications from an Australian educational institution in Hydrology, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Computational Science, or an equivalent/comparable overseas qualification.
- Current NSW Drivers Licence
