Dam Engineering Officer - Local Water Utilities (24 months max term)

What you’ll do: 

  • Provide technical input and support for the dam safety services program to deliver projects and activities to increase Local Water Utilities (LWU) compliance under the dam safety regulation.

  • Participate in and record dam safety risk workshops, facilitated by WaterNSW, leading to delivery of dam safety risk assessment reports to LWUs and liaise with LWUs to collect and review information and studies on dam design, construction and performance for use within risk assessment. 

  • Undertake risk assessment calculations and prepare summary reports for submission to the LWUs, following the methodology in ANCOLD’s 2022 guidelines on risk assessment. 

What we are looking for:  

  • Engineering or scientific degree in Civil / Geotechnical /Structural / Hydrology Engineering from a tertiary institution, with proven experience in the Dams industry. 

  • Understanding of the NSW dam safety regulation and its requirements and ​understanding of ANCOLD guidelines on Risk and ANCOLD guidelines on Dam Safety Management.   

  • Solid written and oral communication skills with capacity to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary professionals and project team members, and to provide reports. 

  • Nice to Have: Understanding of principles and practices of dam design, construction, safety surveillance and maintenance, and the statutory and institutional framework for dam safety management. Knowledge of design & construction of other similar retaining wall structures would also be considered.
