Location: Parramatta, Albury, Dubbo or Tamworth are the preferred locations for the role. However, open to considering the candidate to be based anywhere in NSW where we have a WaterNSW office.

What you’ll do: 

  • Coordinate response to harmful algal blooms based on relevant guidelines and take a lead role in emergency / incident response to manage risk to communities

  • Responsible for stakeholder engagement for coordinating response to algal alerts including water utilities, regulators, other government agencies, local authorities to coordinate response to algal alerts

  • Review, prepare and disseminate regional guidelines, algal data and reports providing recommendations based on guidelines to partner agencies, customers and stakeholders in a timely manner appropriate to the intended audience

  • Analyse and interpret scientific literature and research findings to provide sound advice in relevant fields of scientific endeavour to inform policy and operational decisions on management of water quality to community and customers in a timely manner

  • Provide expert advice, reporting and support to internal and external stakeholders on regional water quality issues such as, but not limited to, cold water pollution, black water, drought, harmful algae and for the management of drinking water supply

What we are looking for:  

  • Tertiary qualifications in Science or a related field and current NSW Drivers Licence

  • Demonstrated experience in water resource and / or catchment management, with an emphasis on water quality

  • Experience in analysing and reporting on water quality or ecological data

  • Specialised knowledge in one or more of the nominated fields: Water quality (physico-chemical), Water quality (microbial), Aquatic ecosystems, Statistics, Limnology, Catchment and riverine hydrology or hydrogeology and/or knowledge of relevant water quality guidelines including ADWG, ANZECC and Recreations guidelines

  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement
