What you’ll do: 

  • Ensure models are fit for purpose, leading the design, build, calibration, and maintenance of a broad range of hydrological, supply network, water quality, land-use, and/or hydraulic modelling systems, to provide technical advice informing strategic and major project planning, risk management & strategy development for internal and external clients (including Sydney Water and NSW DCCEEW)
  • Continually investigate, promote, and drive opportunities for improvement, working collaboratively with wider industry, research partners, and internal stakeholders, being abreast of industry developments
  • Provide technical advice, review technical reports, and project deliverables, to ensure hydrologic factors, supply network capability, climate change, hydraulic and/or water quality risk are well understood, and advice is of a high standard of quality and clearly communicated
  • Support the development of modelling solutions that are aligned with and facilitate the delivery of digital and business strategies, working closely with our internal stakeholders, industry and research partners and internal stakeholders to identify optimum technology solutions
  • Provide technical leadership to deliver water resources modelling projects meeting corporate goals and strategic priorities

What we are looking for:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field of science, engineering, or related disciplines (e.g. mathematics, statistics, data science)

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the development & application of large-scale numerical models for catchment, streams or water supply systems

  • Extensive knowledge & experience in the use of large data sets for modelling, analytics, and advice, with an understanding of collection, storage, and curation of hydrological, hydrometric and water quality data. 

  • Well-developed knowledge of climate change impacts and technical application of climate & hydrologic modelling and associated implications for the water industry

  • Experience in provision of technical and strategic advice to internal & external stakeholders and to inform business decision-making

  • Good to Have: Experience in coding using Python, R or equivalent and/or experience with hydrodynamic / hydraulic modelling, catchment water quality modelling
