Location: Nepean Depot
 
Salary: Equivalent to an ordinary hourly rate of $31.768/hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading) + superannuation for casual work. Hourly rates may differ based on shift days and times - e.g. weekends, public holidays, etc.  
 
Tenure: Casual
 

What we are looking for: 

  • A strong desire to contribute your skills and expertise to our business 

  • Someone who is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent / identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by the community in which they were born, has lived or currently lives 

  • A commitment to promoting and preserving Aboriginal culture and value 

  • Advanced Firefighter Certificate and or higher, with sound knowledge of fire behaviour
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence 

  • Able to travel to and knowledge of the local area (i.e. Nepean, Avon, Appin & Bulli)

  • Experience in radio communication procedures and the ability to read maps accurately and give accurate bearings and landmarks

  • Must be able to work a 1 in 3-week roster (7 days on / 14 days off) and where work may fall outside normal working hours as required

What you will work on:

  • Ensure early detection and location of fires and report these without any time delay during the declared bushfire season

  • Support wildfire response operations through the provision of weather data, fire behaviour and other observations and tasks as necessary

  • Use WaterNSW communication systems and procedures to protect WaterNSW land assets and the environment

  • Monitor, collect data and recommend any actions on weather characteristics to protect WaterNSW land assets and the environment

 

WaterNSW operates the state’s dams, capturing and storing water, and then supplying it ready for distribution – for the environment, agriculture, industry and the community. With 41 major dams and hundreds of waterways across the state, we play a vital role at the source of the state’s water, delivering two thirds of all water used in NSW
