WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Advisor - Property
 (Full time, 6-month max-term contract) to join our team.

As a Senior Legal Advisor (Property), you’ll provide expert advice across a diverse mix of commercial property and land development matters—spanning contracts, leasing, acquisitions, and disputes—while balancing statutory obligations with commercial outcomes.

What you’ll do: 

  • Provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of property matters, enabling informed decision-making and risk management.

 

  • Partner closely with the Property team to deliver practical guidance on legal, commercial, and statutory land management obligations

 

  • Support land development projects with end-to-end legal input, including exposure to Native Title considerations.

 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex property agreements, including leases, licences, easements, and contracts for sale.

 

  • Triage and manage competing legal requests, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes.


What we are looking for: 
 

  • Qualified lawyer with admission in an Australian jurisdiction and eligibility to hold a NSW practising certificate.

 

  • 5+ years’ post-qualification experience, gained in private practice or in-house.

 

  • Sound knowledge of the Australian property law framework, with familiarity across key legislation and regulatory requirements.

 

  • Strong experience across commercial property transactions, including drafting and negotiating leases, licences, easements, and contracts for sale.

 

  • Experience working on land development projects, with the ability to navigate complex and evolving legal considerations.

 

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence advising and influencing senior leaders.
